
Hopkins Finishes 21st at NCAA Indoor Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - University of Alabama sophomore Wilamena Hopkins finished 21st in the shot put on the second day of competition at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at Gilliam Indoor Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M.
The Archer, Fla., native earned her 21st-place finish with a mark of 49-7 ¾. Arizona's Julie Labonte won the event with a throw 57-6 ¼. Hopkins finished the indoor season with an SEC title in the shot put and a personal best of 54-7 ½, placing her second on the Alabama all-time list.
In action on Friday evening, junior Krystle Schade earned All-America honors in the high jump by clearing a height of 5-11 ¼ to finish seventh and earn the third All-America honor of her career. Schade's performance earned two points for the Crimson Tide, tying the squad for 50th as a team at the championships.
The Alabama women's track and field team will start the outdoor season March 24 when they host the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
