TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - After a week off from competition, the University of Alabama women's track and field team returns to action this weekend at the Meyo Invitational. The University of Notre Dame will host the two-day meet on campus at the Loftus Center in South Bend, Ind.
"This meet will provide another opportunity for our team to continue to build upon its earlier performances and progressively improve," UA head coach Sandy Fowler said. "The extremely deep field will also provide our athletes with an additional challenge against a nationwide competition."
The Crimson Tide is coming off a strong showing at Nebraska's adidas Classic where it recorded 20 top-10 finishes in the six-team field with 10 student-athletes recording personal bests. This weekend the Tide will match up against a field that features more than 30 teams.
Junior Kaylon Eppinger finished first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.40 while freshman Dacia Mays recorded a solid second-place finish in the 400m with a time of 57.24 in the team's last outing. Andrea Torske recorded a time of 5:03.46 to finish third in the mile as one of the Tide's other top finishers.
In the throws, Amethyst Holmes finished second in the weight throw with a season best of 59-9.75 to earn SEC Field Athlete of the Week two weeks ago while Wilamena Hopkins threw 49-4.50 in the shot put to also finish second.
The invitational is scheduled to begin Friday at 5 p.m. EST with competition continuing Saturday at 10 a.m. EST.
