TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama men's basketball team faces the Mississippi Rebels for the second time this season on Saturday afternoon in Oxford, Miss. Tipoff at Tad Smith Coliseum is scheduled for 3 p.m. CST with the contest being televised by the SEC Network and broadcast on radio courtesy of affiliates of the Crimson Tide Sports Network.
The Crimson Tide travels to Mississippi as a winner in 14 of its last 16 games to lead the Southeastern Conference's Western Division with an 11-2 league record and a 19-8 overall mark. Alabama is coming off a hard-fought 51-49 victory over archrival Auburn on Wednesday to run its record at home to 15-0 this season.
Earlier in the season, UA defeated Mississippi by a 74-64 margin at Coleman Coliseum. Overall, the Rebels stand at 17-11 and 5-8 in the SEC, including an 11-4 record at Tad Smith Coliseum this season with a 3-3 mark in SEC games.
"They're a very talented team and we won the first game so there's an added incentive for them to get a win," UA head coach Anthony Grant said. "They're extremely dangerous when you look at the talent they have and what they're capable of."
Alabama's defense, ranked third in the nation in points allowed at 57.9, will have its collective hands full with Rebel senior guard Chris Warren, who comes into Saturday's game as the SEC's second-leading scorer at 18.8 points per game and a Rebel roster that is third in the SEC in scoring a 74.4 points per game.
Warren who scored a career-high 33 points versus South Carolina in the Rebels 79-73 loss on Tuesday, managed 15 points on just 2-of-10 shooting in Mississippi's first meeting with the Crimson Tide on Feb. 12.
"He's a great player and is certainly one of the more dangerous players in the league. We'll have to do a very good job guarding him, but you can do a very good job and he can still have one of those nights where he plays very well," Grant said of Warren.
For the Crimson Tide, junior forward JaMychal Green leads the team in points and rebounds, averaging 16.1 points and 7.4 rebounds, while sophomore forward Tony Mitchell is second on the team at 15.8 points and 7.2 rebounds.
Saturday's game will be the 168th meeting between the two schools, with Alabama holding a 116-51 lead in the series. Following Saturday's contest, the Tide will travel to Gainesville, Fla., on March 1 to take on Eastern Division leading foe Florida at 6 p.m. CST.
