Women's Basketball Inks Three Early Signees

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team will add a trio of true freshmen in 2012 as Emily Davis, Nikki Hegstetter and Jasmine Steele all signed early with the Crimson Tide.
"We are all extremely excited about this recruiting class," said Alabama head coach Wendell Hudson. "The addition of Emily, Nikki and Jasmine will certainly help us continue to keep this program headed in the right direction. This group, coupled with the returnees we will have back next season, as well as the transfers that have to sit out this season, has us all very excited for the future of Alabama women's basketball."
Davis, a 6-1 guard from Enterprise, Ala., has been a starter for Enterprise High School since her freshman season, where she has averaged 8.8 points, 3.9 rebounds 2.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game throughout her career. Last season, she put up bigger numbers all around, averaging 13.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists per outing while helping catapult the Lady Cats to 28 wins, setting a new school record, as well as a trip to the South Central Regional for the first time in program history. Davis is also a standout volleyball and soccer player.
Hegstetter, a 6-2 forward from Kennesaw, Ga., has been a steady fixture in the Harrison High School basketball starting lineup since her freshman season as well. Last season, she led the team in nearly every category finishing with 13.5 points, 11.1 rebounds, 3.2 steals, 3.1 assists and 1.2 blocks per game. Following her junior season, Hegstetter was selected to the Atlanta Journal Constitution Metro All-Area Girls Team as well as the All-Region First Team.
Steele, a 5-2 point guard from Birmingham, Ala., helped guide Midfield High School to three-straight Class 4A championship titles and an appearance in the state finals last season. Steele, who has averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 steals per game, was the 2011 Birmingham News Metro Girls Player of the Year and a member of the All-Metro First Team. She earned the 4A Tournament MVP award as a sophomore and followed that up with a spot on the all-tournament team as a junior.
