HOOVER, Ala. -
University of Alabama head men's basketball coach Anthony Grant and senior forward JaMychal Green met with members of the assembled media Thursday afternoon at the Southeastern Conference's annual media day.
The Crimson Tide representatives spent more than two hours discussing the upcoming season with various local, regional and national outlets. The Tide had one of the largest followings of the afternoon session as reporters were eager to hear Grant's assessment of his program heading into his third season with a No. 17 national ranking
"I think we're probably ahead of where we've been in the past," Grant said. "We've got guys that have been in the system that understand what we're trying to do that can help bring the guys along more. So I think we've been able to be ahead of where we were in years past at this stage."
Green, a preseason All-SEC first team selection, also fielded dozens of questions probing for his thoughts on what to expect in 2011-12 with the Tide facing legitimate expectations heading into the season.
"I think we could have a great year," Green said. "We're just going to take it one game at a time and try to get some non-conference games and wins under out belt so that when it comes down to the decision for the NCAA tournament we will have some good wins."
Grant and his squad have less than two weeks of practice to prepare for their first test with a Nov. 5 exhibition date against UAH. The regular season begins in earnest on Nov. 11 when North Florida visits Coleman Coliseum.
