WINDERMERE, Fla. - The University of Alabama men's golf team finished up the 2011 fall schedule with a sixth- place finish at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational at the par-72, 7,544-yard Isleworth Country Club on Tuesday.
Taking home team honors at the Isleworth Collegiate was Texas, the only team to finish under par for the tournament at 8-under-par, 26 shots better than second place LSU. Alabama finished the tournament at 26-over-par 890, with a final round of 11-over-par 299.
Pacing the Crimson Tide on Tuesday was freshman Justin Thomas, who shot a 5-under-par 67 on the final day of play. Thomas finished with a 54-hole total of two-under-par 214, good enough for a third-place finish.
"I was very proud of Justin (Thomas)," Alabama head coach Jay Seawell said. "I think he finished third on a great golf course. He continued to show this fall that he is a difference maker in college golf. For the team, it is the end of the fall and we have a lot of work to do. We need this break before the spring schedule to regain our confidence."
Sophomore Cory Whitsett also cracked the top 20 individual list for the Crimson Tide, shooting a 5-over-par 221, good enough for a share of 16th place.
Senior Hunter Hamrick shot 74 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 35th at 11-over 227. Bobby Wyatt carded a 78 in the final round and tied for 50th at 233. Lee Know tied for 68th after shooting 86 in round three.
The Crimson Tide returns to action at the Puerto Rico Classic on February 17-19, 2012, at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
