
Volleyball Completes Road Trip with 3-0 Loss at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Alabama women's volleyball team completed a two-game Southeastern Conference road trip with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-19) loss at Arkansas on Sunday afternoon from the Barnhill Arena.
The Crimson Tide (10-13, 3-9 SEC) was held to a .121 hitting percentage on Sunday afternoon, while the Razorbacks (14-8, 6-5 SEC) were strong on the attack with a .313 hitting mark. Arkansas posted 10 total blocks against the Alabama attack.
UA was led by Kayla Fitterer's nine kills, while Leigh Moyer and Andrea McQuaid added seven kills each. Moyer hit .333 in the match, and combined with a .429 hitting percentage and four kills from Katherine White, the Tide got 11 kills for a .360 hitting mark from the middles on Sunday.
McQuaid and Stephanie Riley combined for 32 assists, as Riley led the way with a team-high 17, to go along with eight digs. Christina Arenas paced the Tide with 15 digs and Kelsey Anderson added nine digs to give her 981 for her career.
Arkansas had three players reach double figures in kills. Jasmine Norton led the way with 11 and Amanda Anderson and Kelli Stipanovich had 10 each. Anderson was a key to the Razorbacks' defense at the net, recording eight block assists. Raymariely Santos led all players with 33 assists and Christa Alvarez had a match-high 17 digs.
The Crimson Tide trailed 13-15 in the opening set before the Razorbacks went on a 10-4 to close out the set. Arkansas used five blocks in the opening frame to hold the Tide to a .031 hitting percentage. McQuaid led the Tide with four kills in the opening set.
Alabama fell behind 6-1 to start the second set, before getting within two points at 9-7 following a kill by McQuaid. From there, Arkansas went on a 5-0 run to open a 14-7 advantage, but UA made a push to get within two again at 18-16 following an error by Norton. Arkansas opened a 21-17 lead and the last push by UA got the Tide as close as 21-19. The Razorbacks scored the final four points of the set to take a 2-0 lead following the 25-19 second-set victory.
In the third, the Tide kept things close early, but Arkansas went on another run to put space in the score. Leading 7-6, the Razorbacks went on 9-4 run to open a 16-10 lead. UA got as close as five (20-15) before Arkansas put the set away at 25-19 to win the match in straight sets. Fitterer notched five kills in the final frame, while Arkansas' Anderson had seven of her 10 kills in the final set.
Alabama continues SEC play on Friday, Oct. 28, with a 7 p.m. match against the Georgia Bulldogs. The week closes with a 1:30 p.m. CT, match against the Auburn Tigers on Sunday, Oct. 30. Both matches will be played at Foster Auditorium.
