Holmes Named SEC Field Athlete of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Amethyst Holmes of the Alabama women's track and field team was named the Southeastern Conference Field Athlete of the Week by the conference office Tuesday.
Holmes finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 59-9.75 at the adidas Classic Saturday in Lincoln, Neb. It is the first time the Huntsville native has garnered SEC Athlete of the Week honors. Holmes' toss is her best of the season to date and one of the 50 best performances in the nation. It improved upon her previous season best by three inches.
Holmes also competed in the shot put on Saturday and finished 14th with a throw of 42-10.25.
The women's track and field team will join the men in a trip to South Bend, Ind., for the Meyo Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame. The two-day event will be held Feb. 4-5 at the Loftus Sports Center.
