TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team (11-7, 0-5 SEC) will play its third consecutive home game on Thursday, Jan. 20, when it hosts No. 24 Georgia (14-3, 4-0 SEC) in Coleman Coliseum. The game will air live on CSS beginning at 8 p.m. CT.
"We are looking forward to playing Georgia tomorrow night," Alabama head coach Wendell Hudson said. "They are a very good team, and this game presents another opportunity for our team to get better. We have cleaned up some things since Sunday and have been playing at a very high level both intensity-wise and competitive-wise in practice as we prepare."
Thursday's meeting marks the 41st in the series that dates back to Jan. 24, 1977. The Lady Bulldogs lead 31-9 all-time and have won the previous 18 games against the Crimson Tide. Alabama's last win against Georgia came on Feb. 8, 1998, in Tuscaloosa by a score of 90-77. The two teams last met in the SEC Tournament on March 4, 2010, with the Lady Bulldogs escaping with a 73-66 victory.
The Tide fell just short of picking up its first Southeastern Conference win last time out with a 57-53 loss to No. 20 Arkansas. Alabama battled back from a nine-point deficit at the half to tie the game with 7:31 to go but would then go 2-for-9 from the floor for the duration of the contest. Freshman Jasmine Robinson led the Tide in scoring with 12 points, while senior Tierney Jenkins and sophomore Celiscia Farmer added eight apiece. Jenkins ranks second in the SEC in points per game with 16.8 per contest and first in rebounds with 10.7 boards per game.
Georgia heads into Thursday's tilt as one of two remaining undefeated teams in SEC play. The Lady Bulldogs latest win came on Sunday when they beat Florida, 70-64, in Athens. Three Georgia players recorded double-figure points in the win, led by sophomore Jasmine James with 18 points. James also leads the Lady Bulldogs in scoring and assists for the season with 12.6 points per game and 4.4 assists per outing. Senior Porsha Phillips is second on the team in scoring with 11.5 points per game and ranks No. 1 on the team in rebounds and blocks with averages of 10.4 and 1.5, respectively.
Thursday's game marks one of two remaining for the women's basketball team in Coleman Coliseum as the Tide will make the move to its new home, Foster Auditorium, on Feb. 13.
Single-game tickets for the game are on sale at the cost of $5 for adults and $3 for youth 18 and under. Tickets can be purchased here or by calling the Alabama Ticket Office at 1.877.TIDETIX (843.3849).
