
Women's Basketball Opens SEC Play Sunday Against Auburn

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team (11-2) will play its Southeastern Conference opener on Sunday, Jan. 2, when it hosts the Auburn Tigers (7-6) at 2 p.m. CT in Coleman Coliseum. The game will air live on CSS.
"We are excited to take on Auburn in our first SEC game of the season," Alabama head coach Wendell Hudson said. "We believe we put together a pre-conference schedule that has prepared us for league play, and we are ready to get started."
Sunday's contest will be the 72nd in the series that dates back to the 1975 season. Auburn holds a seven-game advantage, 39-32; however the Crimson Tide won the last meeting, 55-53, which was played in Tuscaloosa on Feb. 7, 2010.
Alabama has won its last three games, most recently earning an 88-78 victory at Southern Mississippi on Tuesday. Senior Tierney Jenkins had a game-high 22 points in the win and dished out a team-best four assists. Freshman Jasmine Robinson tied her career-high with 19 points, while senior LaToya King added a season-high 15 points and a career-best eight steals. Jenkins currently leads the SEC in scoring and rebounds with a 17.9 point-per-game average and 11.2 boards per contest. She is also the nation's leader in double-doubles with 10 thus far.
Auburn started the season 1-4 but has won its last three games including a 79-60 win over Jacksonville State on Thursday. The Tigers are led offensively by senior Alli Smalley and sophomore Blanche Alverson, who average 12.6 points per game and 11.2 points per contest, respectively. Senior Jordan Greenleaf is Auburn's leader in rebounds with 8.1 boards per game, while sophomore Morgan Toles dishes out a team-best, and SEC-high 5.3 assists per game.
