TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama softball team held their first fall practice as a full team on Sept. 22. Following NCAA guidelines the softball team can undergo a full regular season practice schedule from Sept. 22 through the end of fall ball on Oct. 23.
"We are very excited about the potential of this group," head coach Patrick Murphy said. "They came back to school in the best shape of any team we have coached and showed their commitment to the program. The four freshman are adjusting to the speed of Division I softball and will do a great job for us this spring.
"Whitney Larsen and Kelsi Dunne are providing senior leadership and holding their teammates accountable," Murphy added. "That accountability will pay off in the end."
The defending Southeastern Conference champions will look to refine their skills and give a learning opportunity to the team's four newcomers. Patrick Murphy's 2010 signing class was ranked third nationally by ESPN Rise and features two NFCA high school All-Americans in Ryan Iamurri and Jackie Traina. Kaila Hunt and Jordan Patterson were all-state selections in Georgia and Alabama, respectively.
The freshmen will suit up in the Crimson and White for the first time on Friday, Oct. 15 for a single game against Jefferson State Community College. Fall Brawl I will follow on Sunday, Oct. 17 featuring UAH and Northwest Florida State.
The full fall softball schedule can be found here. A live game blog and GameTracker coverage will be available for all Alabama games at the Alabama Softball Complex this fall.
