"I am really proud of our players," Alabama head coach Todd Bramble said. "We showed a little bit of everything tonight. We showed we are dangerous on the attack and can be a resilient team. We were able to persevere during moments of momentum for Ole Miss and the crowd really helped us pull through those times."
The win is the third in a row for the Tide and the third straight clean sheet. Junior goalkeeper Justine Bernier earned her second straight shutout, and in doing so, ties the Alabama career record for shutouts with 12.
With a 1-0 lead and the Rebels looking to equalize, the Tide got the insurance goal it needed with just over 10 minutes left in the contest.
Senior Rosaly Petriello took an Ashley Willis pass and then set up her left foot for a low-drive blast from 18 yards out, far post. The goal sealed the Tide's first win over the Rebels since 2004.
Just four minutes into the contest the Tide got on the board. Senior Brooke Rogers once again scored quickly on a one-touch shot from the top of the penalty area. Fellow senior Victoria Frederick beat her defender down the far side and played a perfect cross to the right foot of Rogers. The goal marks her fifth of the season, which is a career-high for the Cincinnati native.
Bernier capped off her record breaking day with nine saves. Freshman Kendall Khanna and Petriello paced Alabama with three shots each. Bernier moves to a perfect 4-0 on the season and sports a 0.25 goals against average.
Alabama will continue its Southeastern Conference homestand when it hosts Mississippi State on Sunday, Sept. 26. The two teams will square off in a Sunday matinee, with kickoff slated for 1 p.m., at the Alabama Soccer Stadium.
