TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama baseball has one of the most storied histories at the University with it being the first competitive sport ever fielded, and this year the team looks to recognize those involved in the process by holding the first ever Alabama Baseball Reunion.
The reunion will be held Saturday, Oct. 30 from 6-9 p.m. in the brand new South Zone at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The reunion is free of charge and open to all former Alabama baseball players plus one guest.
"We're all excited to have the opportunity to bring all of our alumni back," current head coach Mitch Gaspard said. "I think as much as anything, it's going to give them an opportunity to see a lot of old friends, not only from the era that they played in, but from other eras as well."
This event is something the team looks to continue in future years as a way to recognize the collective efforts of those who helped to make Alabama baseball the winningest program in the history of the SEC.
"So many of these guys have done so much to establish our baseball program and we wanted to give them an opportunity not only to be recognized, but, as much as anything, just for them to come have a fun weekend and be part of our program," Gaspard said.
Those planning to attend are asked to also notify their former teammates of the event in case they are not a part of the UA mailing list. A more detailed timeline for the event will be released in the coming weeks as the event nears.
For questions on this event or to RSVP please contact Drew French, director of baseball operations, via e-mail at DFrench@ia.ua.edu or by phone at (205) 348-5258.
"Through our administration - Tommy Ford, Steve Townsend, Coach (Mal) Moore - we've been able to put this together and we think it's going to be a great night," Gaspard added. "Guys will have a lot of fun and we're certainly looking forward to it as well."
