TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama football team practiced for two hours in full pads Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields in preparation for Saturday's season opener against San Jose State.
"It shows a great deal of what our coaching staff has done in recruiting and what we've been doing as a team to sell this program to recruits," junior center William Vlachos said on not skipping a beat after the injury to Mark Ingram. "We are extremely fortunate to have guys behind him that are going to rise to the opportunity."
The Crimson Tide will start the season without star running back and 2009 Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram. Ingram suffered an injury to his left knee during Monday's practice and underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair the knee Tuesday morning in Birmingham. Ingram's status will be handled on a week-to-week basis after this week.
"It's different not having (Ingram) out there," sophomore running back Trent Richardson said. "We're not losing Mark; he's still going to be out there. We know we have to do what we have to do. Mark will support us and we will support Mark too."
Alabama kicks off its 116th season of college football on Saturday, Sept. 4, against the Spartans. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start and will be televised on a pay-per-view basis by the Crimson Tide Sports Network. The game will also be simulcast on ESPN3.com.
