HOOVER, Ala. - Select members of the Alabama football team, along with head coach Nick Saban traveled to Hoover, Ala., Wednesday to participate in the 2010 Southeastern Conference Media Days. Media members from across the country gathered at the Wynfrey Hotel to ask the defending national champions about their upcoming season.
"Media Days are definitely, for a lack of better words, a cattle call," senior quarterback Greg McElroy said. "It's been enjoyable, and getting to see a couple of the players from Mississippi State (the second team in the first session) and spending time with them has been great."
McElroy was one of three UA players making the trip to Media Days. Sophomore running back Mark Ingram and junior linebacker Dont'a Hightower joined the Crimson Tide quarterback. Included in the players' schedules were multiple individual radio and television interviews, as well as large press conferences with print, digital and television media.
Along with the over 1,000 credentialed media members, more than 200 Alabama fans packed the lobby of the Wynfrey to greet Saban and the Tide players. Fans packed the halls surrounding the on-site radio booths during the Alabama players' interviews.
"I never would have thought it would be something as hectic as this," Hightower said. "You think it would be easier to try not to answer the same questions the same ways."
The Tide starts its season Saturday, Sept. 4 against San Jose State, at the newly expanded Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff for the game is slated for 6:00 p.m. CDT and will be televised on a pay-per-view basis by the Crimson Tide Sports Network.
