SANFORD, Fla. - Alabama right-hander Trey Pilkington was selected to play in the 2010 Florida Collegiate Summer League All-Star Game last week in Sanford, Fla.
Pilkington has appeared in six games and made five starts for the first-place Sanford River Bats this summer. He has worked 24 2/3 innings and compiled two of the teams' league-best 23 wins this summer. He played for the South All-Stars that posted a 2-0 win over the North All-Stars last week. His summer league coach is former All-Star second baseman and Major League manager Davey Johnson.
"We are very proud of Trey and his accomplishments this summer," Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard said. "We feel like this experience this summer will help him develop as a pitcher and prepare him for the upcoming season. He is a talented pitcher and we are expecting good things from him in the future with the Crimson Tide."
As a freshman this past season, Pilkington compiled a 1-0 record in five relief appearances for the Crimson Tide. He made his collegiate debut against Illinois-Chicago on Feb. 25 and worked a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. He pitched two scoreless innings in a 7-3 win over Jacksonville State on March 30 for his first collegiate win.
