
No. 32 Men's Track Set for NCAA Championships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - For nearly 40 years, Eugene, Ore., has been dubbed the "Track Capital of the World" and the No. 32 Alabama men's track and field team will have seven student-athletes competing at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 9-12, at historic Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus.
Competition for Alabama is slated to begin on Wednesday, June 9, with the 4x100 meter relay semifinal getting underway at 4:00 p.m. (PT). The Tide will also have a competitor in the semifinals for the 800 meters and 400 meters on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., respectively. The lone competitors for the Tide on Thursday will be in the 4x400 meter relay semifinal at 6:45 p.m. The finals for the 800 meters and 400 meters are on Friday at 5:40 p.m. and 6:25 p.m. On Saturday, Alabama could compete in the 4x100 meter relay final at 10:11 a.m. and the 4x400 meter relay final scheduled for 11:50 a.m., after which the meet will conclude.
The Alabama men advanced seven student-athletes out of the preliminary round to the NCAA Championships in Eugene. Freshman Kirani James enters the final rounds as the No. 5 seed in the 400 meters and junior Fred Samoei is the No. 8 seed in the 800 meters. The 4x100 meter relay squad of senior Brandon Spradley, James, senior Ray Jadusingh and senior Matt Watson are the No. 17 seed and the 4x400 meter relay quartet of freshman Fabian Norgrove, sophomore Aaron Stockstell, James and Watson are the No. 11 seed.
Norgrove, Stockstell and Samoei are making their first NCAA Championship appearance on the oval - Samoei competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Jadusingh, Watson and Spradley are making their second consecutive outdoor appearances. Jadusingh is making his third national championship appearance, indoor and outdoor combined, while James and Samoei are making the trip for the second time in their careers.
The NCAA Championships will be televised live, Friday, June 11, on CBS College Sports from 8:00-10:00 p.m. (ET) and will replay from 11:00-1:00 a.m. (ET). The competition will also be carried live on CBS, Saturday, June 12, from 1-3 p.m. (ET). NCAA.com will stream the rest of the championship online.
