
No. 26 Women's Track Prepares for NCAA Championships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The No. 26 Alabama women's track and field team will be competing in Eugene, Ore., also known as "Track Town USA", with seven student-athletes at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 9-12, at historic Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus.
Competition for Alabama is slated to begin on Wednesday, June 9, with the first day of the heptathlon events getting underway at 1:00 p.m. (PT). The Tide will also have competitors in the 4x100 meter relay semifinal and high jump on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., respectively. Day two of the heptathlon will begin on Thursday at 1:45 p.m. and the 100 meter hurdle semifinal will feature an Alabama athlete at 5:55 p.m. The lone competitor for the Tide on Friday will be in the shot put at 4:45 p.m. On Saturday, Alabama will be represented in the javelin at 9:30 a.m. The finals for the 4x100 meter relay and 100 meter hurdles are also on Saturday at 10:03 a.m. and 11:09 a.m. The meet concludes at 11:50 a.m. on Saturday after the men's 4x400 meter relay.
The Alabama women advanced seven student-athletes out of the preliminary round to the NCAA Championships in Eugene. Senior Chealsea Taylor enters the final rounds as the No. 1 seed in the high jump and No. 5 seed in the heptathlon, junior Kim Laing is the No. 6 seed in the 100 meter hurdles, sophomore Krystle Schade is the No. 22 seed in the high jump, freshman Wilamena Hopkins is the No. 19 seed in the shot put and junior Meghan Austin is the No. 20 seed in the javelin. The 4x100 meter relay squad of sophomore Audra Frimpong, Taylor, Laing and senior Heather Matherson are the No. 18 seed.
Frimpong, Matherson, Austin and Hopkins are making their first NCAA Championship appearance, while Taylor, Laing and Schade are making their second consecutive outdoor appearances. Taylor has been to the national championships, indoor and outdoor combined, five times now, while Laing and Schade are making the trip for the third time in their careers.
The NCAA Championships will be televised live, Friday, June 11 on CBS College Sports from 8:00-10:00 p.m. (ET) and will replay from 11:00-1:00 a.m. (ET). The competition will also be carried live on CBS, Saturday, June 12 from 1-3 p.m. (ET). NCAA.com will stream the rest of the championship online.
