TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama Swimming and Diving team has signed Hunter Hinson (Cairo, Ga.) to a National Letter of Intent head coach Eric McIlquham announced this week.
"We're excited to have Hunter join the Crimson Tide," McIlquham said. "We expect that he'll be able to help us in a range of events and believe that he has the ability to thrive in this environment."
Hinson is a senior at the Brookwood School. A three-time All-American, twice in the 100 butterfly and once in the 100 backstroke, Hinson holds the Georgia Independent School Association state records in the 200 and 500 freestyles as well as the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly. He also led Brookwood to a runner-up finish at the State Championships in 2009.
"I chose Alabama because I felt like it was a place that I could call home," Hinson said. "I stepped foot on campus and I knew right away that this was it."
Swimming for the Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club and coached by Terry Maul, Hinson is a USA Junior National finalist in the butterfly and backstroke events. He is the son of Barbara and Lofley Hinson.
