FAYETTEVILLE, Ark - The Alabama softball team (47-9, 23-4 SEC) advanced to the SEC tournament championship game after junior Whitney Larsen hit a walk-off home run to defeat Tennessee, 4-3 in Friday's semifinal game. The Crimson Tide will face the No. 3 seed, Louisiana State (44-13, 20-8 SEC) in the tournament finale, Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CDT. The game will be nationally televised by ESPN with Beth Mowins and Jessica Mendoza calling the action.
LSU advanced to the tournament final with a dominating performance in their semifinal game against Florida. The Tigers defeated the Gators 9-1, with Bayou Bengal ace Cody Trahan only allowing four hits in a complete game performance.
Alabama swept the Tigers in a two-game midweek series by scores of 3-1 and 4-3. Kelsi Dunne earned both wins for the Tide, starting the first game and earning the win in the second game after Jennifer Fenton hit a two-run walk-off home run to comeback and beat the Tigers, 4-3. Alabama is 5-6 all-time against LSU in SEC tournament games.
While both Alabama and LSU are expected to easily make the NCAA Division I Softball Tournament, the winner of the championship game will receive the Southeastern Conference's automatic bid.
