TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 4 Alabama fell to No. 1 Texas, 9-1, in Thursday's series opener at Rhoads Stadium.
Alabama (33-3, 7-3 SEC) fell behind early after a Texas (32-2, 9-1 SEC) solo home run in the first inning and the Longhorns continued to apply pressure on offense the rest of the game, scoring in five of its remaining six innings. On the other side of the ball, the Crimson Tide was limited to five hits with its lone run scoring on an RBI single from Marlie Giles in the fourth inning. Alexis Pupillo, who scored the run, was 2-for-3 on the day to extend her reached-base streak to a career best 32 games. In the circle, Jocelyn Briski (13-1) took her first loss of the season.

"It wasn't a good performance for us tonight. The pitching and offense were not what I've seen for 35 games. With such a good team like Texas, we've really got to be better tomorrow and keep up with them throughout the game. We have the best fans in college softball and tomorrow night we're going to need them more than ever. It's a 7:30 p.m. game under the lights at the Rhoads House. It doesn't get better than that."
