2010 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING
New in 2010, the NCAA altered the qualification standards for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The new format consists of two regions - East and West. There will be no qualifying standards, but instead the top 48 athletes and the top 24 relay teams per region, that declare, on the descending order list in each event will compete in the preliminary round. The top 24 heptathletes and decathletes overall, that declare, will contest their event at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. The two regional sites in Austin, Texas, and Greensboro, N.C., will act as the "prelims" for the NCAA Championships, essentially the beginning of one continuous meet leading to Eugene.
