TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - When senior Aaron Fleshner finished his collegiate diving career at last month's NCAA Championships, he was wearing the crimson and white of Alabama. Next month, he'll trade his Crimson Tide uniform for Team USA's red, white and blue when he competes at the 2010 AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., May 6-9.
"I'm very happy that Aaron has the chance to compete for the United States and even more so that he will get to dive for Team USA in the only Grand Prix meet that will be held here in the States," UA diving coach Pat Greenwell said.
A four-year All-American, Fleshner is also a multiple Southeastern Conference Champion and the 2009 SEC Diver of the Year. The Spring, Texas, native will compete off the three-meter board at the Grand Prix event. He was seventh off the three-meter board at the 2008 USA Olympic Trials and finished as high as third on the event at the NCAA Championships.
The AT&T USA Grand Prix is the sole U.S. stop on the six-country FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation) international Grand Prix tour. Now in its 40th year, the USA Grand Prix competition is one of the most prestigious diving events in the world and regularly draws top international athletes, Olympic and World champions.
Fleshner and his USA teammates will be competing against divers from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Russia and Spain among others.
