AUGUSTA, Ga. - The University of Alabama men's golf team tees it up for the third consecutive week as the Crimson Tide takes part in the Administaff Augusta State Invitational April 3-4 at the par-72, 7,231-yard Forrest Hills Golf Club.
Three rounds will be played in two days with the 18-team field playing 36 holes on Saturday and the final 18 on Sunday.
The Crimson Tide enters the tournament following a solid showing at last week's Linger Longer Invitational where UA finished runner-up to No. 1 Oklahoma State. Sophomore Bud Cauley blew the field away to capture the individual title, the third of his young career and second of the season. He was named the Golfweek National Player of the Week for his efforts.
Tournament host Augusta State will try to defend the team title it took home a year ago when the Jaguars fired a 36-under-par 828 to win its seventh Administaff ASU Invitational in its last ten tries. Augusta State sophomore Taylor Floyd earned medalist honors with a 13-under-par 202 last year to complete the tournament sweep.
Joining Alabama at the tournament will be Chattanooga, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Duke, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Houston, Illinois, Kent State, Lamar, Minnesota, South Carolina, Tennessee, UNC-Greensboro, South Carolina-Aiken and Virginia Tech.
Cauley's 71.63 stroke average leads the Tide's young lineup that will once again feature three sophomores and two redshirt freshmen. Following last week's win the All-American jumped from 21st to second in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance index.
Sophomore Hunter Hamrick enters the week second on the squad averaging 72.76 strokes per round. Following an opening round 83 in last week's Linger Longer, redshirt freshman Scott Strohmeyer rallied with a 4-under par 68 in the second round and a final round 69 to finish tied for 15th, and enters the week with a 74.95 stroke average.
Sophomore Hunter Slatton and redshirt freshman Lee Knox complete the Tide's lineup for the week. Slatton is averaging 75.26 strokes per round, while Knox holds a 75.95 scoring average. Knox will also be returning to his home town of Augusta, Ga., for the first time as a part of the Crimson Tide golf team.
The tournament will get underway Saturday at 7:30 a.m. (CDT) with a shotgun start. Follow all of the action with live stats at www.golfstat.com. Complete results and a recap will be available on www.rolltide.com at the completion of each day's competition.
