Swimming and Diving Celebrates Season With Awards Banquet

TUSCLAOOSA, Ala - The Alabama Swimming and Diving teams held their annual year-end awards banquet Thursday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium, celebrating a season that saw Crimson Tide athletes earn All-American honors, win Southeastern Conference titles and break multiple school records.
"There is a lot to celebrate this year," UA head coach Eric McIlquham said. "Both the men's and women's teams moved up in the conference standings in the toughest league in the country. We also continue to break school records and academically there is no doubt that we are among the nation's best."
Senior Mark Randall, a four-time All-American and owner of three individual school records, earned the Mike Curington Most Valuable award while sophomore Carrie Dragland, a four-time All-American and holder of two school records, was honored with the Christina Jarvis Most Valuable award. Randall also earned the Marshall Shoemaker Most Dedicated award.
Senior Riley Boulden was named the men's captain and earned the Carolos Berrocal Most Improved award. Senior Shannon Van Hoy was named captain of the women's squad for the second year in a row.
Jake Reynolds and Anestis Arampatzis shared the Arne Borgstrom Most Valuable Newcomer award while junior Adam Booher took home the Coaches Award. Sophomore Andrew Reeves earned the Bob Dimick Most Scholastic award.
Jenna Gallo earned the Angelika Knipping Most Valuable Newcomer award while the Katie Williams Most Dedicated award went to junior Kate Shannon Gray. Junior Paige Troyan was given the Kim Nicholson Most Improved award.
Sophomore Shelby Hixon earned the Debra Hobart Perseverance, Determination and Spirit Award, junior Britney Busch earned the Ellen McGrath Most Scholastic award while senior Elizabeth Hughes earned the Coaches Award.
