ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - The University of Alabama men's golf team begins postseason play on Friday as it takes part in the 2010 Southeastern Conference Golf Championship at the par-70, 7,055-yard Sea Island Golf Club Seaside Course on April 16-18.
The Crimson Tide will begin the three-day, 54-hole event Friday at 7 a.m. (CDT) alongside Auburn and South Carolina.
Alabama enters the Championship following an off week after participating in three consecutive tournaments that saw the Crimson Tide string together two top-five finishes and a top-10.
The Tide looks to improve on last year's sixth place showing where second and third round under-par performances were not enough to overcome a poor opening round. No. 15 Alabama will be joined by No. 13 Florida, No. 17 South Carolina, No. 21 Georgia, No. 23 LSU, Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Georgia took home the team title last year with a 13-shot victory over Arkansas.
Sophomore Hunter Hamrick leads the way for Alabama with a 72.75 scoring average entering the tournament. Hamrick has collected three first-place finishes this season and will be trying to improve on last year's 3-over-par, 17th place showing. Redshirt freshmen Scott Strohmeyer and Lee Knox will be making their first SEC Tournament appearances. Strohmeyer carries a 75.04 stroke average into the event, while Knox holds a 75.45 scoring average.
Sophomores Hunter Slatton and Spencer Cole round out the Tide's lineup. Slatton brings some SEC Tournament experience, having placed 58th in last year's event, while Cole will be making his first trip to Sea Island. Cole is averaging 75.50 strokes per round, and Slatton is fourth on the team with a 75.18 stroke average.
Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com and a complete recap of each day's action can be found at RollTide.com following the completion of each round.
