
Volleyball Wins a Pair at Florida State Tournament

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The volleyball team won two of three matches at the Florida State Tournament on Saturday taking down Troy and Georgia Tech. The Crimson Tide's only loss on the day was to the host Seminoles.
In Alabama's first match of the day, junior Alyssa Meuth and freshman Kayla Fitterer combined for 20 kills, but it wasn't enough as Florida State won 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 15-9). Junior Mary Catherine Aune collected a team-high nine digs, while both freshman Kelsey Anderson and Meuth added an additional six apiece. Meuth tallied three blocks, and Aune led the Tide with a trio of service aces.
Against Troy, both Meuth and Fitterer registered double-digit kills with 13 and 11, respectively, to pace the Alabama offense to a 2-1 victory (25-18, 25-16, 13-15). As a team, the Tide scooped up 20 digs in the match, once again led by Aune with eight. Sophomore Stephanie Riley notched six digs, and junior Calli Johnson recorded a team-best four blocks.
In its final match of the day, Alabama came back from a first-set loss to take the 2-1 (15-25, 25-14, 19-17) win. It would be Fitterer leading the Tide attack this time with 14 kills. Redshirt freshman Leigh Moyer added five kills hitting .500 for the match. Aune collected nine of Alabama's 19 digs, while Meuth and Moyer each added three blocks. In addition, Anderson and Aune threw down three service aces apiece.
The Tide will take part in its final event on the spring season on Saturday, April 17 when it heads to Siesta Key, Fla., for the Third Annual SEC Coaches Beach Volleyball Championships. Play begins at 9:00 a.m. CST and will continue throughout the day.
