OXFORD, Miss. - With only the heptathlon competitors finishing their competition on Sunday, the women's track and field team concluded its stay at the Ole Miss Invitational at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex.
Senior Chealsea Taylor started the day with a third place finish in the long jump with a mark of 18-2 1/2 (+0.6), while junior Rachel Robbs was fourth in the event with a season-best leap of 17-7 1/2 (-0.1).
In the javelin, Robbs was just one inch from her season-best, winning the event with a heave of 124-3. Taylor was fourth with a throw of 90-6.
In the last event of the multi-event competition, the 800m run, Taylor clocked a time of 2:26.43 to place third, while Robbs posted another season-best with a time of 2:37.54 to finish seventh in the event.
In the final heptathlon standings, Taylor was second with a point total of 5,291 and Robbs was fourth with a season-best 4,938 points.
"That is by far, by a lot, the best opener that Chealsea Taylor has ever had and this is by far, an increase for Rachel Robbs from what she did at her opener," head women's track and field coach Sandy Fowler said. "They did awesome. I'm proud of both of them and this is a great indication of what SECs has to come. Especially when we start to take some things and decrease their workload. They did great."
Up next, the Alabama squad will travel to Des Moines, Iowa, for the prestigious Drake Relays, April 21-24.
