SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The No. 26 Alabama men's track and field team concluded its stay at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday, where the squad had a final chance to better it's athlete's qualifying marks before next weekend's NCAA Championships.
Junior Fred Samoei posted a provisional qualifying time of 1:50.47, but had already run a time of 1:48.86 earlier this season, ranking him 20th in the nation.
The 4x400m relay team of Kirani James, Ray Jadusingh, Aaron Stockstell and Matthew Watson did not better their season-best time either as they combined for a time of 3:09.36. The relay squad currently sits at No. 23 in the country with a time of 3:09.27.
In all likelihood, neither Samoei nor the relay team will advance to the national meet unless others scratch before the meet.
"We didn't get any faster in our events today," head men's track and field coach Harvey Glance said. "We could move down the national list because of faster times posted today in other meets. It's tough already just competing at this level, but more so just falling a little short. We'll have to see where we rank nationally, but I'm proud of the guys' efforts. We've been fighting the flu bug all week, which has been going around the team. They gave a valiant effort though. We've got about three guys that should make it in the national meet, I think. Our relay team, Tyson David and Fred are all on the bubble."
Up next, Alabama and the athletes who have qualified will compete at the NCAA Championships being held in Fayetteville, Ark., March 12-13.
