Alabama Golfers Finish Fourth at John Hyat Collegiate Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - The University of Alabama men's golf team made another move up the leaderboard on Tuesday in the final round of the John Hyat Collegiate Invitational, finishing fourth with a 31-over-par total of 895, at the par-72, 6,955-yard Sawgrass Country Club.
The Crimson Tide's 9-over-par 297 in the final round vaulted them another four spots on the leaderboard. Alabama was 11th following the opening round and eighth after 36 holes.
Tournament host North Florida captured the team title with a 54-hole total of 12-over-par 876. LSU rallied for a second-place showing with a 24-over-par 888 while Duke shot 16-over-304 in the final round to finish in third place at 25-over-par 889. Tennessee and Tulsa tied for fifth at 34-over 898.
Alabama's sophomore All-American Bud Cauley fired an even-par 72 in the third round to post his fourth top-10 finish of the 2009-10 season. He carded rounds of 78, 69 and 72 on his way to a tie for 10th place.
Redshirt freshman Scott Strohmeyer shot a 5-over-par 77 to finish tied for 27th at 10-over-par 226 after rounds of 74, 75 and 77. Redshirt freshman Lee Knox shot fired his best round of the tournament with a 2-over-par 74. He finished tied for 42nd at 13-over 229.
Hunter Hamrick shot his second straight 74 to finish at 18-over-par 234 in a tied for 65th. Hunter Slatton ran into trouble on the final 18 holes with an 86 that left him tied for 76th.
Thomas Hugghins shot a 5-over-par 77 playing as an individual on Tuesday and finished in 71st position with a 20-over-par 236.
The Crimson Tide will have a few weeks off before returning to action in the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga., March 19-21.
