GREENSBORO, Ga. - University of Alabama sophomore Bud Cauley fired a career-low 64 (-8) to take the individual lead after the opening 18 holes of the Linger Longer Invitational Friday at The Landing Golf Course at Reynolds Plantation.
Collectively the Crimson Tide fired a 6-over-par 294 on the par-72, 7,005-yard layout to finish the opening round alone in third place, one shot behind top-ranked Oklahoma State and Furman (+5, 293). Following pars on the first five holes, Cauley played the final 13 holes without going more than one hole without a birdie. The All-American birdied holes six, eight and nine to turn in a 3-under-par 33 on the front side. Cauley continued his opening-round assault with a 5-under-par 31 on the back nine with birdies on 11th, 12th, 14th, 16th and 18th to finish off his bogey-free round.
