Men's Basketball to Face Georgia On Saturday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama men's basketball team returns to action after a week off to face Georgia in the teams' annual cross-division meeting on Saturday in Athens. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CST with the game broadcast via the SEC Network and ESPN360.com.

Alabama begins the stretch run of the regular season after defeating Arkansas, 73-68, last Saturday to snap a four-game losing streak and improve the Crimson Tide to 14-11 overall and 4-7 in SEC action.
Georgia returns home after falling, 69-60, at Tennessee on Wednesday evening to drop to 11-13 overall and 3-8 in league action. All three of the Bulldogs' league wins have come at home, but the squad is winless against the SEC Western Division this season.
"Georgia is a good team," UA head coach Anthony Grant said. "I think when you look at their size and physicality, they've done a great job coaching them and they believe every time they step on the floor, whether it's home or away, that they can win. They're very impressive when you watch them on film with the things that they do on both ends of the floor."
The Bulldogs are led by Trey Thompkins' 17.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game on 48.9 percent shooting. In Wednesday's loss to Tennessee, Thompkins recorded a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Saturday's game features two of the more methodical teams in the SEC as Alabama and Georgia are 10th and 11th in the league in possessions per game, respectively, with 68.0 and 67.7 possessions per game.
Alabama's defense continues to make the most of that slower pace with just two league opponents scoring more than 70 points and all 11 scoring on average 13.7 points less than their season averages against the Tide. The UA defense leads the SEC in points allowed per game (61.4) and defensive three-point percentage (.263) in league games.
Offensively, Mikhail Torrance and JaMychal Green lead the team in scoring with 14.8 points each. Torrance has come off the bench in the last two games and scored 12 second-half points, including eight straight against Arkansas. Green notched his fourth 20-point performance of the season with 22 points and nine rebounds against Arkansas. He leads the team in rebounding with 7.1 per game this season.
Following Saturday's contest, the Tide will remain on the road to face Mississippi State on February 24 at 8 p.m. in Starkville, Miss.
