Alabama Head Coach Wendell Hudson
Opening statement:
"I thought our intensity level was really high. We're going to be a different type of basketball team than we've been in the past. We are going to play full-court basketball. If you are going to play for us, you're not going to play 10 minutes at a time. You're going play more like five minutes at a time. I thought we played a lot of people a lot of minutes. The most minutes anyone played today was 21 minutes, and I think that's the way we're going to play this year. I thought we shared the basketball well. Scoring, I don't expect anyone to average 20 points a game for us this year but closer to 12 or 10 points. We will have five, six, or seven people average that for us this year."
On LaToya King's performance:
"I thought she passed the ball well. We didn't play LaToya as much tonight as we normally would in a regular game, but she played well. She was sharing the ball well. She had three or four turnovers on passes that I thought were the right passes to make, and we need to make sure that the other people keep looking for the basketball when she's on the floor."
On how the freshmen fit in to the game plan today:
"I thought that the freshmen fit in really well. We have two or three freshmen that are going to step in and play a lot for us when we get into the real games. Without any question they are going to be contributors eventually. Jasmine (Robinson) and Kaneisha (Horn) are two freshmen that we are going to count on playing a lot for us this year. Shafontaye (Myers), is going to get a chance to play because when they play a zone I know where she can shoot the basketball from. Khristin (Lee) is trying to play the toughest position in basketball and is learning to play it on the college level. She has to get more comfortable in her role and stop fouling so much."
On how he thought the fast break offense worked:
"It turned out just like we thought it was. In the first half we were fussing at them about running, and running and running. The big key to fast break basketball is that you know you are going to have turnovers, and today we had too many. We know we are going to have some, but if you run and run on every single play you're going to be surprised at the amount of layups and open shots that will be available because the defense is going to get tired of running with you. I think that the way we are going to approach playing on both ends of the court is going to be fun to watch."
Senior Forward Tierney Jenkins
On playing against a different team:
"We've been playing each other all preseason and summer so to finally get to competition to play against somebody else was great. It was nice to see what we look like and see what we need to work on."
Freshman Forward Kaneisha Horn
On what the team needs to work on the most:
"Turnovers. We just need to be more patient. I think in some spots we are moving too fast."
On her rebounding performance:
"I was somewhat happy with it. I thought I could do more than I did. Next game I want to have more offensive rebounds."
UAH Head Coach Roy Heintz
On today's game:
"It is fun to see what Wendell has done thus far. I thought they did a great job of pressuring the basketball and using their defense to win the game. They obviously have a huge size advantage and were hammering the boards. We had 41 turnovers, some of them unforced, but they pressured us into some turnovers and got into the tempo that they liked."
Comparing Alabama and Florida State:
"That is going to be a fun game to watch. Both teams are real long and real athletic. Both teams like to play up-tempo styles. It could be in the 60s or 90s. I encourage all Alabama fans to come out for that game because Wendell has done a great job, and it's going to be a fun team to watch this year."
