
Volleyball Concludes 2010 Season Wednesday Against Mississippi State

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The volleyball team will play its final match of the 2010 season on Wednesday when it hosts Mississippi State. First serve is slated for 4 p.m. CT in the CAVE.
"Both teams are going to want to get this win tomorrow," Alabama head coach Judy Green said. "I think for our team it is about serving and passing better. We need to get back to fundamentals today in practice. I expect our players to be hungry for this win, and I expect our coaches to coach their best match of the season."
Alabama played a pair of hard-fought matches last weekend falling 3-2 to Auburn and 3-1 to Georgia. Sophomore Kayla Fitterer had match-high kills for the Tide combining for 39 on the weekend. Senior Kayla Schmidt delivered 56 total assists, while senior Mary Catherine Aune led the Alabama defense with 22 digs. Fitterer continues to pace the Tide offense with 3.70 kills per set, while Schmidt dishes out a team-high 6.07 assists per frame. Sophomore Kelsey Anderson remains Alabama's leader in digs with 4.15 per set.
Mississippi dropped a pair of 3-1 decisions last week to Georgia and Auburn at home. Junior Caitlin Rance led the Bulldogs with double-digit kills in both matches adding 18 against Georgia and 14 against Auburn. She is Mississippi State's leader in kills per set this season averaging 3.57 per frame. Freshman Paris Perret has been the Bulldogs top option at setter as she dishes out a team-best 9.06 assists per set. On defense, Mississippi State is led by seniors Ashley Newsome at the net and Kayla Woodard in the back row. Newsome rejects an average of 1.22 attacks per frame, while Woodard scoops up a team-high 4.41 digs per set.
Alabama leads the all-time series with Mississippi State 39-15, however the Bulldogs have won the previous two meetings. The Tide's last win was on Sept. 30, 2009, by a score of 3-2.
