TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A pair of women's tennis doubles teams competed Friday at the 2010 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships with junior Taylor Lindsey and freshman Alex Clay earning an 8-5 win in the main draw consolations.
"Today was very similar to yesterday," Alabama assistant coach Rahim Esmail said. "We had three very tough matches. We need to keep our heads up and keep staying positive. We need to improve in certain areas, and if we continue to do that we will be able to achieve our goals when it counts in the spring."
Lindsey and Clay took on the Kentucky pair of freshman Khristina Blajkevitch and senior Megan Broderick in the round of 32 before earning a bye in the quarterfinals. The Crimson Tide team will face Duke sophomore Mary Clayton and junior Monica Gorny in the final consolation round Saturday.
Also competing on Friday was junior Courtney McLane and sophomore Alexa Guarachi. The No. 2 ranked team dropped an 8-5 decision in their first match of the tournament to Duke seniors Ellah Nze and Nadine Fahoum. In the consolation draw, McLane and Guarachi were narrowly edged by the Georgia tandem of junior Nadja Gilchrist and freshman Lilly Kimbell 9-8(5).
