TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama softball team swept its second day of fall games as the Crimson Tide earned a 4-0 win over UAH and an 8-0 win over Northwest Florida State College Sunday afternoon. With the two wins, Alabama improves to a perfect 3-0 this fall.
"All the freshmen played really well," Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy said. "Jackie (Traina) pitched a great game, not giving up a hit after the first inning. Cassie (Reilly-Boccia) and Conley both had great at bats. I was really proud of the fact that we only had one error the entire day. That is something we have been working really hard on this fall."
GAME ONE
Behind the pitching of All-American Kelsi Dunne and a three-run second inning, the Crimson Tide earned a 4-0 win over UAH at Rhoads Stadium. Dunne struck out 14 and allowed four hits in the complete game effort.
Kayla Braud and Cassie Reilly-Boccia collected two hits while Olivia Gibson drove in two. Gibson's two-run double started the scoring for the Tide. Braud then singled to third to bring home pinch-runner Ryan Iamurri.
Alabama tacked on one more in the sixth when Reilly-Boccia connected on her first home run of the fall. The New York native hit the solo shot over the wall in right-center.
GAME TWO
Freshman Jackie Traina struck out 11 in five innings in her Alabama debut and the Tide plated eight runs on eight hits to down Northwest Florida State 8-0.
Traina allowed just one hit and shut down NWFS after the leadoff hitter and just walked one to earn the five inning win.
Courtney Conley belted two home runs while Reilly-Boccia went deep once again and Kaila Hunt drove in two in the lopsided victory.
After scoring a single run on a solo shot by Conley in the second the Tide plated four more in the third. Kaila Hunt drove home Keima Davis on a single up the middle to start the scoring in the frame. Traina then helped her own cause with a sac-fly to left and then Reilly-Boccia connected on a two-run shot to center to expand the Tide lead to 5-0.
In the fourth, catcher Kendall Dawson tattooed the top of the wall in left to bring home Jennifer Fenton and Hunt drove home Jackey Branham on a sac-fly to left.
The Tide capped off its scoring when Conley drilled her second home run of the game, a solo shot to right-center.
NEXT UP: Alabama will return to action next weekend as it will host Fall Brawl II on Friday, Oct, 22, and Fall Brawl III on Saturday, Oct. 23. The Tide opens play against Central Alabama on Friday at 4 p.m.
