"It's obviously huge game in terms of the intra-state rivalry," said Alabama head coach Anthony Grant. "I'm looking forward to experiencing what I've heard about for several months with this rivalry. We'll be in a great atmosphere in their building in what should be a very highly contested game. Our team is just looking forward to getting back on the court and preparing for another opportunity to play."
The Crimson Tide travels to Auburn with two consecutive wins over then-No. 23 Mississippi State and LSU and the pair of wins improved the Tide to 13-7 overall and 3-3 in Southeastern Conference action. Meanwhile, Auburn has lost two straight games after falling to Mississippi, 84-74, on Thursday evening and is 10-11 overall and 1-5 in league play.
Alabama's defense has been its hallmark as of late with seven of its last eight opponents shooting less than 40 percent from the field. SEC opponents have shot a combined 37.1 percent from the field against the Tide, the seventh lowest percentage in conference games in the nation this season with the last two opponents shooting 30.6 percent from the field and 11.1 percent from three-point range.
Additionally, the defense has limited conference opponents to 0.88 points per possession, the top mark in the league and 19th nationally. However, that defense will be challenged by an Auburn offense that has averaged 77.3 points in its last three games.
Senior Mikhail Torrance leads the Tide into Auburn for the final time in his career after recording his first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds on Wednesday evening. Torrance is the Tide's top scorer with 15.2 points per game this season and will be charged with stopping Auburn's perimeter tandem of DeWayne Reed and Frankie Sullivan. The pair are averaging 16.4 and 13.5 points per game, respectively.
