ORLANDO, Fla. - The spirit squads enjoyed a successful trip to the 2010 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships where the Crimson Tide cheerleading squad placed second in the coed division IA finals, Big Al placed sixth in the mascot division IA competition and the Crimson Cabaret finished 15th in the division IA hip hop finals. The event was held Jan. 15-18 at ESPN's Wide World of Sports in the Walt Disney World Resort.
"I am very pleased with the team's performance down at nationals," said David McDowell, coordinator of the cheerleader squads. "We had a couple mistakes and for us to still place second says a lot about our routine and the direction we are headed. We are going to work harder this year, so that we have an even better chance at first."
The cheerleading squad was one of eight finalists in its division and finished just seven points behind first-place Kentucky. Big Al was among 11 finalists for the mascot crown, while the Crimson Cabaret was one of 24 teams in the hip hop finals.
"I am very proud of the Crimson Cabaret team for making hip hop finals at the 2010 UDA Nationals," said Crimson Cabaret Coordinator Marion Powell. "Through dedication and determination our team achieved a team goal to make finals. It is an honor to represent the University of Alabama on a high level of achievement."
