BREMERTON, WASH. - Alabama sophomore Bud Cauley notched a top 10 finish at the PING/Golfweek Invitational in his first tournament of the season with a 4-over-par 220 (+4) to finish in a tie for sixth place.
No. 4 Alabama finished the tournament in 12th place after a final round 311 (+23) on the Gold Mountain Olympic Course that left the Crimson Tide with a 911 (+47) 54-hole score. No. 1 Oklahoma State ran away with the team title, winning by 22 strokes over second place Washington, with a final score of 862 (-2).
Cauley shot a 75 (+3) in round three and got as close as second place after a birdie on hole 11, but two bogies and a double-bogey down the stretch moved him slightly down the leader board.
Sophomore Hunter Hamrick tied with Cauley for the best round of the day for the Tide with a 75 (+3) that included three birdies. Hamrick finished the event tied for 32nd at 227 (+11).
Sophomore Spencer Cole wrapped up the tournament tied for 43rd after a third round 79 (+7). Cole tied for the low round of the tournament for Alabama with his 71 (-1) in round two matching Cauley's first round 71.
Redshirt freshman Scott Strohmeyer shot 83 (+11) and finished tied for 63rd at 235 (+19), while sophomore Hunter Slatton finished tied for 68th posting a final score of 239 (+23).
Alabama returns home to host the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate at the Old Overton Club in Birmingham, Ala., Oct. 12-13.
