BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Freshman Kelsey Anderson was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week in volleyball, which was announced by the league office on Monday. This is the first conference honor for the Louisville, Ky. native and marks the second consecutive week in which a Crimson Tide player has been recognized by the conference.
"Kelsey has been playing very consistent volleyball for us," said head coach Judy Green. "She's a hard-nosed competitor, and I really see her getting better from week-to-week. This is a great honor for Kelsey, and we are extremely proud of her."
Anderson provided two solid defensive efforts for Alabama last weekend. She extended her consecutive match streak with double-digit digs to seven, collecting 14 against South Carolina and 10 against No. 5 Florida. Her 10 digs versus the Gators were a team-high for the match. Anderson also served up three aces in the two matches, setting a career-high with two against Florida. The freshman had her hand in the offensive production as well, dishing out five assists.
Anderson, and the rest of the Tide volleyball team, returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 7:00 p.m. (CST) against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Alabama also hosts LSU on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7:00 p.m. (CST) in a match that will be televised live on Fox Sports South.
