ROCKY FACE, Ga.- The No. 4 University of Alabama men's golf team shot 4-over-par 292 in the final round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate and finished tied for sixth at 875 (+11) on the Farm Golf Course in the Crimson Tide's first tournament of the year.
Sophomore Hunter Hamrick shot the Tide's best round for the second straight day with a 70 (-2) to wrap up the tournament tied for 14th at even-par 216. Hamrick made three birdies and eagled the par-five 12th hole in the final round.
Sophomore Spencer Cole turned in his best round of the tournament with a 1-under-par 71 on Sunday. All three of Cole's birdies came on the back nine, where he turned in a 33 (-3). Cole finished in a tie for 38th at 223 (+7).
Redshirt freshman Lee Knox posted a 75 (+3) and finished 44th in his first collegiate tournament with a 54-hole score of 227 (+11). Knox sank two birdies in the final round, both on par-fives.
Sophomore Hunter Slatton and redshirt freshman Scott Strohmeyer shot matching 76s (+4) completing the Tide's scorecard. Slatton finished tied for 24th at 220 (+4) while Strohmeyer tied for 33rd with a 222 (+6).
The Crimson Tide played the Carpet Capital without sophomore All-American Bud Cauley who helped the United States defend their Walker Cup title. Cauley went 3-0-1 in his four matches, scoring 3.5 points for the U.S.
Alabama's next tournament is the Ping/Golfweek Invitational in Bremerton, Wash. Sept. 27-29.
