Men's Golf Leads Carpet Capital Collegiate after Round One

Rocky Face, Ga.- The No. 4 University of Alabama men's golf team sits atop the leader board after round one at the Carpet Capital Collegiate, shooting a 289 (+1) on the Farm Golf Course Friday.
The Crimson Tide holds a one-shot lead over Clemson, South Carolina and Tennessee, who are all tied for second at 290 (+2).
Redshirt freshman Lee Knox, making his first collegiate start, led the Tide with a 2-under-par 70. Knox played solid from start to finish with only one bogey, and he birdied two of the four par-fives to finish the day with three birdies in all. He is tied for third place heading into the second round.
Sophomore Hunter Slatton and redshirt freshman Scott Strohmeyer each posted even-par 72s. Slatton sank a team-high six birdies with Strohmeyer right behind him with five birdies. Strohmeyer took advantage of the course's longest holes, posting birdies all four par fives.
Sophomores Spencer Cole and Hunter Hamrick shot identical rounds of 75 (+3) to round out the Tide lineup. Both players made three birdies on the round.
