TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Under the direction of second year head coach Todd Bramble the Alabama soccer team officially got its 2009 training camp underway Friday. The team opened camp with a fitness test in the morning and then met on the field for a training session in the early evening.
"It certainly felt great to get back out there with the team," Bramble said. "We have so many new faces but the excitement level from the players is outstanding. We are really focusing on coming together as a team as quickly as possible. "
The first session that began in the morning involved a fitness test and was conducted in the Hank Crisp Indoor Practice Facility. The team then headed to the Alabama Soccer Stadium for the first time in the fall for a short field session and some technical training.
The Crimson Tide then came back together for a two hour training session at 5:30 p.m. at the stadium. In the second session the team focused on individual and small group defending along with more technical training.
"I'm really excited to start camp due to the determined mentality of the team," senior defender Alex Butera said. "As an upperclassman I am excited to see what the freshmen are going to bring to the team. We are ready to start competing and to put in the work to be successful this season."
Alabama will train for six straight days before it takes to the pitch for its first exhibition fixture of the season. Alabama will face off against Mercer on Thursday, August 13 at 5:00 p.m. The Crimson Tide will officially open the 2009 campaign when it plays UAB on Friday, August 21.
