
Soccer Set to Wrap Up Road Trip Against Jacksonville State

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama soccer team (0-2-0) will head to Jacksonville, Ala. to face Jacksonville State (2-1-0) on Sunday, August 30 at the JSU Soccer field with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. The Gamecocks are coming off a win Friday night win over Mississippi Valley State while the Crimson Tide fell to the Samford Bulldogs its last time out.
Last Time Out
The Crimson Tide opened its road portion of the 2009 schedule with a 3-0 loss to instate foe Samford on Friday night at the Bulldog Soccer Stadium. SU scored twice in the first half and tacked on one more in the second to secure the shutout victory. The Crimson Tide out-shot the Bulldogs 13-7 but Samford put five on goal while Alabama was only able to put two on frame. In between the pipes Samford keeper Alyssa Whitehead earned her second clean sheet of the season. Whitehead made two saves to earn her first victory on the year.
Scouting Jacksonville State
The Gamecocks enter Sunday's match with a 2-1-0 overall record after earning wins over Mississippi Valley State (4-0) and North Georgia (1-0). Jacksonville State finished one game shy of the 2008 OVC Soccer Tournament, finishing 5-10-3 overall and 2-5-1 in league play. Jax State has 10 letterwinners returning that includes three of the team's top four leading scorers and welcomes 13 newcomers in 2009. Chelsea Pelletier, who was a First-Team All-OVC and OVC All-Newcomer selection last season, led JSU with 16 points, seven goals and two assists. Lindsay Boehmler was second on the team with 11 points, scoring five goals with one assist while senior Amber DeLaney tallied three goals and two assists to tie for fourth.
Alabama vs. Jacksonville State: The Series
Sunday's meeting will mark the sixth time the two programs have squared off. Alabama leads the series 5-0 and posts a 2-0 mark against JSU on the road. The last time the two teams met was on Aug. 31, 2008 in Tuscaloosa where UA handed JSU a 3-0 defeat. The win was the very first for head coach Todd Bramble while at the helm of the Crimson Tide. In the series, the Crimson Tide has outscored the Gamecocks 21-5.
Next Time Out
The Crimson Tide returns home for a single contest next week against South Alabama. The two teams will kickoff at the Alabama Soccer Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m.
