TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The volleyball team will take the court for the first time in 2009 when it plays in its annual Crimson White intrasquad scrimmage Saturday, August 22 in the CAVE. Opening serve is slated for 7:00 p.m. and admission is free.
"We are excited to get into our first match-type situation," said head coach Judy Green, who is entering her 14th season with the Crimson Tide. "We still have some kinks to work out with our lineup, so this opportunity will allow us to do just that."
The scrimmage will be set up unlike a typical match in that the first half will feature the crimson versus white team with one set being played to 25 points and the second being played to 15 points. The squads will then be formed more into an A team vs. B team format and will play a pair of sets to 25 points.
Alabama is coming off a 16-13 season and welcomes back five experienced starters to its 2009 lineup. In addition, the Tide added two transfers and a pair of newcomers to its roster.
"This is always a fun night for the team," added Green. "We get to see fans we haven't seen since last season. We're hoping for a good turnout."
Alabama kicks off its regular season Friday, August 28 at the SLU Active Ankle Challenge when it takes on No. 20 Saint Louis at 7:00 p.m. (CST). The Tide's first home match of the season will take place Tuesday, September 1 when it hosts Alabama A&M at 7:00 p.m. (CST). Season tickets are still available for $30 and can be purchased by clicking here or by calling the Alabama Ticket Office at 205-348-2262.
