ATLANTA, Ga. - The Alabama women's soccer team capped off its exhibition schedule with a 4-0 loss against Clemson Saturday afternoon at the Tophat Soccer Complex. The neutral site friendly was the first time Alabama head coach Todd Bramble had played against his former squad.
"I was really happy with how we competed for 70 minutes," Bramble said. "We consistently played with five to six freshmen the entire game so it was a good learning experience."
The two teams started the contest close as Clemson headed into the intermission with a 1-0 lead at the half after scoring an early goal. The Tigers then tacked on another in the beginning of the second half before both teams cleared the benches for the remainder of the contest.
Despite the neutral contest the complex hosted a big crowd that was estimated at around 1,000 fans - with the majority pulling for the Crimson Tide. "It was a great atmosphere," Bramble said. "We were all excited by environment and support."
Alabama will now have a week to prepare for its official 2009 debut. Alabama will host instate foe UAB on Friday, August 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the Alabama Soccer Complex.
"We just need to get healthy and concentrate on the offensive side of the field," Bramble explained. "We have a week to get more fit and bring the freshmen up to speed."
