Alex Kubal Signs with Saint Paul Saints

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Former Alabama centerfielder Alex Kubal has signed a professional baseball contract to play for the legendary St. Paul (Minn.) Saints in the independent Northern League, the club announced Thursday.
Kubal was a two-year starter for the Crimson Tide and hit .321 with eight home runs and 39 RBI in his 104-game career in Tuscaloosa. He hit .329 with four home runs and 23 RBI in 54 games with Alabama in 2008. This past season, he hit .313 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 50 games.
As a senior, he was UA's leading hitter in SEC play with a .359 (33-fo-92) mark in 26 games, with two home runs, 12 RBI and 22 runs scored. He was 3 for 6 with double and RBI in UA's 19-6 win over the Mississippi on March 22 and posted a career-best 10-game hitting streak from May 1-29, where he batted .441 (15-for-34) with three doubles, three home runs, nine RBI and 11 runs scored.
A native of Shorewood, Minn., Kubal will provide some local flavor for the Saints. He is a graduate of Minnetonka High School and spent his first college season at Concordia University-St. Paul. He was named the 2006 Freshman of the Year in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. He was also named a first-team All-NSIC selection.
