TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama freshman golfer Bud Cauley continues to collect postseason honors with Golfweek selecting him as a first-team All-American on Monday.
Cauley is only the fourth golfer in University of Alabama history to be recognized as a first-team All-American.
Cauley joins Michael Thompson, who was a first-team selection in 2008, along with David Kirkpatrick and famed U.S. Open champion Jerry Pate as the only UA golfers named first-team All-Americans. Cauley was also named a PING Second-Team All-American earlier this month, while his teammate Hunter Hamrick received honorable mention acknowledgement from PING.
In addition to these honors, Cauley's decorated resume includes selection to the All-Nicklaus team, SEC Freshman of the Year, first-team All-SEC honors and Hogan Award semifinalist. The Jacksonville, Fla. native was one of eight American collegiate golfers chosen to compete in the 2009 Palmer Cup against Europe.
During his memorable freshman campaign, Cauley led the Crimson Tide with a 72.13 scoring average, the sixth-lowest total in team history. He finished the season as the 10th-ranked golfer in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and second among freshmen.
Cauley earned a share medalist honors at the United States Collegiate Championship with a 212 (-4). The true freshman finished in the top five in five of the 10 events he played for Alabama and landed in the top 20 in nine out of 10 times.
