FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The men's track and field team concluded their 2009 campaign on Friday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships being hosted by the University of Arkansas at John McDonnell Field.
Tyson David earned his second All-American honor of the 2009 season as he finished seventh in the 5,000 meter final with a time of 14:10.75. David was fifth in the indoor 5,000 meter race. Emmanuel Bor finished 15th with a time of 14:23.13.
"It's tough to get here and get points," head coach Harvey Glance said. "You want to come here, and then you get here and you want to perform well and be competitive. You've got to give respect to the field, of course, everybody in this meet are outstanding athletes. Tyson getting All-American again is a great, great accomplishment. I hoped that Bor would run a little better, but I'm proud of the way both of these guys competed tonight."
In a race that dragged the athletes around the oval with a very slow pace, the runners were crossed the line with three laps to go around the 11:10 mark. The leaders ran their three laps well under three minutes.
"We'll get another ranking now after this meet which means we've been nationally ranked in all three sports being cross country, indoor and outdoor track," Glance said. "That makes me proud to have all three ranked. That's what we aim for every season and all year long. Again, I'm really proud of the way our guys competed this weekend."
Galen Rupp of Oregon won his sixth national championship of the 2008-09 year running a time of 14:04.12, just one day after he won the 10,000 meter title Thursday night.
