TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama second baseman Ross Wilson has been invited to the Team USA Baseball Trials, which will be held at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C.
The sophomore is one of 36 players vying for a spot on the USA National Team that will compete this summer, which will be highlighted by the USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Classic in Japan.
"This is a tremendous honor for Ross and the University of Alabama baseball program," Alabama head coach Jim Wells said. "Ross is a great player and very deserving of this invitation to play for Team USA this summer. He was a great player for us last year, but has gotten better this year by cutting down on his strikeouts and increasing his walks. He is just a solid, all-around player."
An All-American and All-SEC candidate, Wilson is hitting .350 with nine home runs and 44 RBI in 46 games this season. In SEC play, he is seventh in the league in doubles (8), seventh in hit batters (5), ninth in total bases (59) and RBI (25) and 11th in slugging (.641).
Wilson is hitting .317 (139-for-438) with 24 home runs and 91 RBI in his 108-game career. He has started every game (108) in which he has played and added six triples, 17 stolen bases, 25 doubles and 109 runs scored. He has recorded 39 career multi-hit games and tied the UA freshman record with 15 home runs in 2008.
